CLIENT TESTIMONY - MORETON BAY COLLEGE AND MORETON BAY BOYS COLLEGE

Rodney Taylor, COO of Moreton Bay College and Moreton Bay Boys College, shares his experience of creating a natural play environment with Wearthy. The Brisbane-based school features two campus and each includes an exceptional early learning service. We are thrilled to have worked so closely with the teams at MBC and MBBC on this early learning project in Manly. Thank you Rodney for your testimony and insights into the design and construction experience of creating this outstanding playground with Wearthy in 2023.

Our outdoor environment is rich with built-in learning opportunities that allows the children to direct and guide their own play; freeing up our educators to work alongside the learning that is happening. We have quiet spaces, hiding nooks, viewing platforms, winding paths, digging patches and active areas that allows the children to meet their agency and learning.

Our playground at Pod Early School (Newmarket) is the heart of our centre. A communal space where all age groups come together, children enjoy interacting with natural elements including rock beds, water ways, and herb gardens. Challenges are embedded to support all levels of development, and supervision is simplified by wonderful visibility. Wearthy’s strategic and intentional design has resulted in not only a playground that children love to immerse themselves in, but one that also inspires Educators’ professional practice. Simply put - it is a natural environment where children can celebrate the joys of childhood.” Lauren Fraser, Director of Operations

Case Studies

QCCS, Brisbane and SEQ

I met Lukas Ritson at a seminar he was presenting about sustainability. Immediately, I was blown away by his energy, magnetism and knowledge. It really helped that his philosophies on early childhood education were very similar to ours at Amaze.

We were currently looking at putting in a new playground at a childcare centre that was being built. We had had quotes from other well-known suppliers but they were not only very pricey, they were boring, less natural, and very similar to a lot of other centres around us. There didn’t seem to be the understanding of our need to personalise the design to suit our community, the area allocated and incorporate our ideas.

Lukas was a breath of fresh air. He listened, added suggestions, and listened some more. When he presented the design, we saw he had been meticulous about every detail. He had incorporated play philosophy, and explained how every element linked together. He had thought of everything from the type of wood and plants, sustainability, and the ability to make the elements multi-purpose thus alleviating boredom.

Lukas and the team at Wearthy are not just about delivering a playground with new landscaping or new fort, they deliver much more. Wearthy redesign the entire outdoor play space delivering an innovate playground but ensure to remain sustainable with spaces that don’t need revamped and instead design to include it.

Laura Faalili, Queensland Childcare Services

The children have had access to this inclusive environment for almost a year, and it's been incredible to watch them explore at their own pace, accomplishing their goals and advancing further. When the playground first opened, it was evident that not only the children, but also their families and educators experienced a variety of new challenges, particularly in terms of risk and hazard perception. Children now have access to a natural environment which provides them with a range of developmental and learning opportunities. Children have been given the freedom to partake in courageous play while having FUN!

QCCS has been working with Wearthy since mid-2018 on renovating our outdoor projects. So far we have successfully completed 23 yard renovations.

Each project is uniquely different depending on our children and demographics. At each site meet Lukas and the team take the time to ask our Children and Staff what they want to see in their new space and include this in the design so they feel they have input which in turn increases the engagement and use of time spent outdoors.

They deliver areas with edible gardens, composting, water tanks, fast play, slow play, transition places, risky play and water play.

We highly recommend Wearthy to anyone wanting to update areas of playground space or complete revamp as the build team are just as professional as the design team. We look forward to continuing the relationship with another four projects in the works.

LAURA FAALILI, GENERAL MANAGER

Amaze Education, Brisbane and Gold Coast.

The design was so good we featured on channels 7, 9 and 10, two radio shows and current affairs show The Project. This of course was extremely beneficial to market the centre.

One of the unique benefits of working with Lukas is that he was originally an Outdoor Educator, so he knows first-hand the requirements and regulations, as well as experienced how children interact with different elements.

The installation was very painless, all the crew from Wearthy worked seamlessly together to bring our play spaces to life. As an owner, it was a relief not to worry about project management.

At the end, the playground came in both on time and within budget. However, Lukas’s services didn’t stop there. Wearthy offered an after-care program which included training staff and information sessions for parents.

I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Lukas or Wearthy for any job big or small. They are currently constructing an even bigger and better playground at our newest centre being built.

Thank you for not giving up on us when we had timing issues. Thank you for being prepared to work with us even when our thoughts and responses were wishy washy. Thank you for the beautiful playground that our Kindy children get to enjoy every single day. Thank you to the guys on site who worked through rain trudging through mud and loosing gumboots. Thank you for always being happy to give me an update every time I popped out to survey the changes that were happening. Thank you for engaging with our children who were giving their constant opinions both encouraging and not so encouraging. Thank you, Lukas, for coming to answer questions and inspire us in our thoughts about outdoor play and the ways in which we use our space. We hope to repeat this all again in the not-too-distant future.

Finding the best company took a bit of research & time. With all the promptly returned phone calls & visits from Lukas, as well as the quality of sample materials & designs that he provided, it was clear that this was the company we were to use. Lukas & his company certainly came up with well above what we expected. He worked in partnership with the educators & children to ensure that all of their requests/needs were met.

Lukas is very passionate about sustainability & this became obvious from the beginning with his designs, use of local business, recycling of EVERYTHING & constantly sharing his knowledge. Throughout construction he engaged the children wherever possible to give them ownership of their new playground.

“Thank you, Lukas & your team, for creating our unique & beautiful playground enriched with everything a child (& Educator) could want.”
